🏡🐶Seeking Forever Home🐶🏡 Name: Clairey Wren Breed: Akita mix Gender: Female Size: Large 🎂 DOB: 20/03/2023 🐱 Cats: No thanks 🐶 Dogs: Not in my home thanks 🧒 Children: Calm dog savvy teens 🏃🏻♀️ Energy level: Moderate 📌 Location: Westmeadows, VIC 🆔 Microchip: 956000015735696 PER: RE100115 If you've followed Clairey Wren’s journey, you might remember the scared little lady (with short stumpy legs) who arrived in foster care completely shut down. She was scared of everything, didn't know how to be a dog and had no idea how to trust people. Fast forward to now, and we're finally getting to see who Clairey Wren really is. Turns out she's an absolute ratbag! 😆 She's cheeky, nosy and thinks that anything left on the table was put there just for her. She likes to supervise whatever you're doing around the house, and if she can be involved, even better. Once she trusts you, she's super affectionate and loves being right beside you. She really just wants to hang out with her people (and bark at the occasional bird that lands on the roof). Clairey Wren has come a long way, but she's still a dog that needs someone willing to meet her where she's at. She's still very unsure of strangers. Out and about she's happy enough to watch people from a comfortable distance, but new people coming into the house is something she finds difficult. Because of that, she's looking for a fairly quiet home where visitors aren't coming and going all the time. Any introductions will need to happen slowly and at Clairey Wren's pace. The more pressure she feels, the harder it is for her. Because Clairey Wren missed out on important social experiences early in life, she lacks some social skills and can become overwhelmed by new situations. Once she's settled into her new home and trusts her family, she'll need someone who can gradually build her confidence with new experiences instead of expecting her to just cope. Clairey Wren is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. She walks every day together with her foster carer's three resident dogs and has no issues at all with them when she's out and about. She’s pretty good at meeting dogs outside of the house too. At home is a bit different. She can be dominant over her own space and doesn't enjoy sharing it with other dogs, so she'll be happiest being your one and only. She loves getting out for a walk, although her brain is often working overtime. There's just so much to see, smell and think about that she can become quite overwhelmed, so she'd really benefit from someone continuing her lead training and helping her learn to slow down and switch off. She's already made so much progress with her foster carers. She loves playing fetch, although whether she actually gives the ball back depends entirely on her mood. Sometimes she'll bring it straight back. Other times she'll proudly trot off with it and expect you to chase her. Classic. Now that Clairey Wren is feeling safe and comfortable enough to be herself, she's started testing boundaries and showing that wonderfully stubborn Akita like personality. She's looking for someone with Akita experience (or similar breed experience) who understands that consistency, patience and a good sense of humour go a long way. Being a beautiful long haired, double coated lady, she needs regular brushing. Because she's still nervous around unfamiliar people, her new family will need to be happy maintaining her coat themselves while continuing to slowly build her confidence before she's comfortable enough to trust someone else to handle her for brushing or bathing. Clairey Wren isn't the sort of dog who'll walk into a new home and act like she's lived there forever. She'll need time. She'll need patience. She'll need someone who understands that trust has to be earned. The good news is that once Clairey Wren decides you're her person, she falls hard. It only took her about three days with her foster carers before she started letting her guard down and showing us the funny, affectionate girl she'd been hiding all along. Once you're in her circle, you're in. You'll get the cuddly, goofy, stubborn, hilarious girl her foster family has completely fallen in love with. If you've got the patience and experience to help Clairey Wren continue growing, we promise she'll make it worth every second.
