Why do you want to adopt a dog?
*
Tell us about you and your household. Family, share house, live alone. Ages of children, older members, abilities etc.

Young children or elderly people - will the dog have any regular contact with either of these? Please describe their experience with dogs and their abilities.

Does anyone in the household not like dogs? Does anyone have any allergies to, fears or worries about dogs?

Have you checked that adopting this dog would keep you under the number of dogs permitted by your council?

The Dog's new life
What would be a typical day and night for the dog you are applying for? How many hours would the dog be alone for?

Will the dog be exercised and socialised outside the home or will it be a stay at home dog?
*
Will the dog have interactions with other dogs in your social/family circle?
*
Where would the dog be likely to sleep? Outside, inside, crate, laundry, lounge, your bedroom, your bed?

Which areas of the house and garden will your dog have access to? Which areas will be restricted? Do you have a dog door?
*
What outside areas will your dog have access to? Balcony, courtyard, small yard, medium yard, large yard, acreage?
*
If you have a yard is it securely fenced? No holes, at least 5ft fencing etc.

If no-one is home, where will the dog stay? Will it be outside or inside or access to both?
*
What kind of mental or physical activity will the dog have with you, how often and for how long? Walking, running, on lead, off lead, games, training?

Are you going away within the next 8 weeks? Dogs need a settling in period with continuity.

What if things change?
What behaviours would you consider to be most frustrating? Destructive chewing, annoying barking, digging, reactivity on lead, costly vet bills, moving house, toileting inside?

Would you be prepared to work with the dog to help it learn better behaviours to address issues? This may entail engaging a trainer, or educating yourself to help the dog, or changing routines etc.

What if you have babies or children or grandchildren come in to your life? Wil this be an issue with keeping the dog?

Do you agree to keep in contact with us to allow us to help you where we can to deal with settling in issues with the dog?

Do you agree to only return the dog to us if it doesn't work out? We are dedicated to making our dogs succeed and so we have a lifetime return policy.
